my jonathan cainer horoscope for the weekend:

You never know what you are capable of until you try. Of course often, when you do try, you discover that you are capable of a great deal. You then have to spend your whole life worrying in case the rest of the world finds out. Capable people are forever being asked favours. They end up taking on far too much responsibility. Sometimes, they cause others around them to become lazy - and overly dependent on them. You are due to prove capable of something tremendous this weekend. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone if you don't. Next week brings a big adventure.

this says it all for today.

it was arissa's birthday. arissa once told her babysitter she wasn't too fond of, "today is your last day" and "if you're not doing anything, you could be ironing my mom's uniform." that was when she was five. these days she says things like, "mom, why don't you go to the gym? you're paying for it anyway!" she's 8 now. i once took her to wal-mart to buy her anything her little heart desired within reason, and she liked this one pair of shoes, but when i offered to buy them she just said, "nevermind, i'll just get them later," rather dismissively. then when i was going to get her a britney spears cd, she said, "if i get this one, it won't have "oops" ha?" i love that kid. we call her the little woman. she's a good girl. washes the dishes, polishes the floor with coconut husk, takes care of her brother. although i am a feminist of sorts, these are things that make the house go round and i think women should embrace that and be valued for work like that, child labor might be a different argument. i was dancing with her in the front yard. i've been letting my "little white hippie girl" inside out to play lately. lots of barefoot action, and where better to let her out then dancing with arissa in her front yard on her birthday to j.lo?

it is always great being around my sanson side. especially with my dad there. he was my grandma's favorite son in law. i love my muslim/physical therapist/mall booth shop runnin' cousin betcha from zamboanga. she cracks me up. she is the epitome of sanson, even though she is a nuno. sometimes i forget how much family is an integral and beautiful part of my life including the vulgar aunties and little boys spinning on the grass with giftbags over their heads...the karaoke that is used as a threat to make the kids dance to a bad version of "tiny bubbles" or the backstreet boys. nothing a little sikalang or fresh lumpia wouldn't make up for. or good talk-story for that matter. i love that betcha can talk for hours and hours on end and never get tired of laughing. i love that we can not talk for long periods of time and then when she is done cleaning and scolding her nieces and nephews, we can just pick up where we left off, years ago.

so my big accomplishment today was starting a conversation with the boy formerly known as "headlights" (i being formerly known as "deer" to complete the analogy). it went very well and i think he feels more comfortable around me now. i hope so. i'm gonna see him tomorrow. my friends were so proud of me.

sooooo sore from dragonboat racing. eeeeeee. and i was just wearing a tank top as the fog rolled in and we were calling "power 10s," digging deep in the water. i have a mini pneumonia.
