...just another girl who costarred?
they're gonna wrap you up in cornsilk.
they're gonna cry like you were spilled milk.

what a long weekend i've had and what a short week ahead. friday some of my very best girlfriends and i attended "8 stories high" the culmination of the writing, acting, directing and tech workshops at bindlestiff. i wrote the first skit in the great, great lineup and i must say, the actors did a great job. i heard some crickets (prrt prrt style) at times and that was painful but a good experience all in all. we got mitchell's ice cream and nachos con carne asada in the mission afterwards. i'd not prefer to spend my 20s any other way. at least for today.

saturday was the longest march we've done so far, at least it's what it seemed. tinkers came out in full force. we did the toyi toy and continued to say everything in call & response hours after we were done marching. toyi toy is a south african marching style that mobilized a huge movement and aided in the movement against apartheid. we have borrowed from it and shared it with many people and it was very interesting finding myself doing security and marching backwards facing the people of color contingent that seemed at least 1000 strong for like, 3 or 4 miles and seeing random people joining us "raising their knees, 90 degrees" and saying "hoy hoy" or "hey hey" depending on how close they were paying attention. it was beautiful. black bloc was trying to derail our march back to civic center to splinter off, trying to encourage us to get arrested. ask me about what i think about that.

today it was family time w/old friends from hawaii. i hadn't seen these cousins of mine since i was five and all that they remembered of me is that "i had a command of english" at 5. i think they were shooting sunshine up my ass, but hey, i'll take it. they are great people and they're parents are great parents. they're all so beautiful. it's nice to be around "family" and feel how that works again...backwards by someone else's standards or not. they had this awesome dog "twinkie" that looked like a teddy bear with tina turner's head sitting on her ass from behind...80s tina.

i'm now packing to go to hawaii in a few hours...hope it doesn't go by too fast.

and YOU, if you're reading this, what part of "leave me alone" do you not understand? xo. lisa
